Feng Gongs are discs without rim and therefore explosive - expressive to the outside. With simple chinese mallet and sturdy cord for hanging.

The whole disc is set into vibration, the movement can be observed very well at the edge. Thus the sound is very full with many secondary sounds and overtones - like a cymbal. They respond very quickly and also die away quite quickly.

Another way of playing the disc gongs is that they are held by the standing player on the string and are immediately slowed down again between the thighs/knees after being struck, so exciting rhythmic playing and even melodious ensembles can be created.

The wind gongs can also be rubbed with a mallet. A chinese legend reports that a monk once sang at a Feng Gong, which was hung up in the neighbouring valley, only with his voice. Because he sang the exact tone of the gong, it resonated.
