Application
The 8-tone bass lounger slot drum from feeltone is the first instrument with the “feeltone idea” on the market. Feeling the rhythm during the game is implemented here so simply and uniquely. The drum has feet on the bottom and on one side, so the instrument can also be tilted on its side and used as a lying version. There are two ways to experience the “feel the sound” principle:
- Playing area above . Two players sit at the two ends of the drum, where there are no tongues, and play the tongues that are now in front of them with the mallets. It starts slowly, the exploration - the vibration is perceived in the body with amazement and quickly the shyness disappears and a joyful interactive drumming starts, at first not necessarily musical - the other person wants to get to know - but later joyful, cheeky, funny, refreshing . Creativity is awakened and rhythm as communication connects and invigorates.
- Playing area on the side . The bass slit drum is tilted on its side. The lid is sideways, there is a bare pine side on top. This is padded with a blanket and a child or adult can be placed on it. The legs can hang down or be placed on the drum. A player (accompanist or teacher - or a practiced, mindful child) sits next to the drum and gently strikes the individual sound tongues one after the other with a mallet. First you want to feel how the person lying down is doing, if that's OK - then the slow, gentle drumming can begin. If you keep an eye on the breathing of the person lying down, the player can see what is going on in the person lying down and when it is enough.
The bass slit drum can of course also be played as a pure percussion melody instrument, also in a vertical position or as a bench. Be careful - please don't sit on your tongues.
Mission
In kindergartens, clinics, and facilities for people with disabilities, this drum is often used for mindfulness exercises and to experience one's own body as a pleasant source of blood because of its "feel the sound" abilities. There have been wonderful successes, particularly with hyperactive children . The attention goes from being outside oneself back inwards, the body is perceived again, the system calms down and the child can be integrated again.
tones
The 8 tones tuned pentatonic in D minor are arranged in such a sequence that the left hand starts at the bottom left at the lowest note, then the next note of the scale on the next row of notes is played with the right hand, in this way it continues to the left - right - left and down again to the highest note. Arranged in this way, a clear order can be maintained when playing rhythmically, but it can also be experimented with intuitively with the timbres. Playing patterns that please are repeated; from time to time a sound breaks out and explores new sound fantasies. Starting as a drum with a rhythmic pattern that is staggered in time, melodies slowly build up. The bass slot drum can be played just as easily with mallets as with fingers and hands.
Play style
With the mallets you can easily hit the notes rhythmically and clearly one after the other. The player can also let the mallets drip on the notes, that is, let the rubber ball of the mallet drip onto the tongue and hold the handle as if it wanted to rest on the tongue, thereby causing the soft rubber ball to spring back . If you let the springs glide over several tongues rather than just one, fascinating sound patterns are created that can be combined with simply striking the tongues.

processing
The bass slot drum has a stable interior, is made of long-fiber, regional ash and is cleanly tuned. It is the largest from feeltone, unique on the market and very popular with young and old.
Tonal differences between ash and padauk
As an excellent tonewood, Padouk has very good vibration properties. This is noticeable with the slot drum with a longer resonance. We use ash as a local alternative. This particularly long-fiber wood is very close in quality to Padauk.
