The pentatonic tuned 10-tone Tinka Tong from feeltone is the second smallest wooden tongue drum on the market. However, the fine work that goes into it is not significantly less than that of a drum three times the size or a metal snare drum. The tuning has to be just as precise and the shape and surface have to be a delight to the touch. The materials are made from the same high-quality precious woods as their larger siblings. We make every effort to process the land and soil resources provided by the trees as completely as possible.

Playing style

The 10 notes tuned pentatonically in A minor (sansula tuning) are arranged intuitively so that a kind of random pattern/random melody is created when playing rhythmically, but also so that you can experiment with tone colors. Playing patterns that please are repeated, from time to time a note breaks out and new sound fantasies are explored. The balanced reed pattern of the tongues makes it difficult to recognize the scale straight away, which facilitates intuitive playing.

Mallets can simply be struck or drilled rhythmically and clearly one after the other. This means you let the rubber ball of the mallet drop onto the tongue and hold the handle as if you wanted to stay on the tongue, causing the soft rubber ball to spring back. If you let the feathering slide over several tongues instead of just one, fascinating sound patterns are created which can be combined with the simple striking of the tongues. The drum can also be held in the finger hole and played with one hand using fingers or a mallet.

With the leaf pattern of the tongues, the small tongue drums speak the language of the forest, wood and trees. They sound soft and gentle and can be combined well with other instruments such as kalimbas, spacedrums or flutes.

By sitting on the tongue of the drums or by hitting or wedging objects too hard in the openings between the tongues, tongues can break or splinter and splinters can be drawn in or cut at these points. Splinters on the instrument must be removed immediately. The mallets can be mistaken for lollipops and should not be put in the mouth by children. Avoid inserting objects into the opening on the underside, as this can lead to jamming.
