Your drum is your vehicle for contact with the world of "not-knowing", the time before and after life, that which is greater than us. The cow represents the strength of the buffalo, bison or the European species of bison. The hide is particularly thick and robust.

Construction

We have improved the construction of our large ritual and group drums:

1. stand
It can now be assembled and disassembled as often as you like using sockets and carriage bolts. The wood itself has stronger dimensions and is therefore more stable.

2. Drum suspension
We have now made the four suspension cords of the Powwow from braided sailor rope and passed them through two eyelets (holes) in the body of the drum.

Playing style

When drumming for a long time, a trance-like state is achieved, which serves to connect to other states of consciousness and for communication within the circle and group. Traditionally, the player makes the mallet himself. Ritual drumming is not about drumming with particular virtuosity, as is the case with frame drumming, but rather about synchronized, monotonous drumming. Universities have studied the effect of monotonous rhythms and discovered a change in brain waves and states of consciousness. If we drum to the rhythm of our heartbeat or running, we can do this for quite a long time without exerting much energy. At North American powwow and rodeo festivals, the drum is played continuously for the entire time (a week or more) , day and night. In this way, the energy and purpose of the festival lasts for the entire event.
